Faded Dreams

Yeah, I remember when
Pretending with my friends
Cap guns and cowboy boots
Rocket toys and spacesuits
Army men and fighter jets
Lincoln logs and Lego sets
So much fun playing those roles
Switching gears and changing goals

Faded dreams
I coulda’ been, enters my mind
Then life happened, caught in the grind
If only I did this, if only I did that
Missed my chance, never made it to bat
Is it too late, can I get another shot
Can I start over, chase what I sought
Can my faded dreams be renewed
I’m wiser now, more fortitude

Was it that girl, I found attractive
Did I lose focus, was I distracted
Or my friends, who only wanted to chill
They meant no harm, I had free will
Unsupportive loved ones who meant well
In my head, those thoughts should never dwell
Am I lazy, are these just lame excuses
Check myself, I’m the only one who chooses
